INSTRUCTIONAL SYSTEMS DESIGNER

The Instructional Systems Designer is responsible for developing, maintaining, delivering, and supporting evaluation of courses and learning modules for training systems and professional development providers. This position requires minimal supervision and will be responsible for the production of instructional design materials, clear communication skills to provide updates and design ideas, updating of course and module content and technology, and collaboration with analysts throughout the Program.
The successful candidate must be able to take the instructional design needs from several projects and apply best instructional design practices to help complete the projects. The candidate will bring expert working knowledge of the production aspects of creating training curriculum (e.g. LMS production and learning content conversion/design). In addition, this position will design instruction that reflects an understanding of the diverse group of learners, develop training program goals, overall program objectives and module objectives using template-oriented Learning applications.
Responsibilities
- Apply the basic principles of adult learning theory to identify options and recommend the most appropriate learning strategy to meet the performance needs of the intended audience.
- Scope, design, and develop creative, learner-centered training programs to support a variety of delivery types, including self-paced, blended, and instructor-led training.
- Develop in multiple modalities including synchronous and asynchronous remote learning, classroom learning, interactive e-learning modules and simulations, videos, job aides, facilitator guides, and resource materials.
- Project manage the instructional design process from beginning to end, collaborating, supporting, and communicating professionally with learning project managers and stakeholders.
- Collaborate with other learning professionals on projects to ensure effective instructional design, and exceptional visual design.
- Leverage learning data insights and user feedback to recommend and make improvements.
- Drive and ensure best practices standardization across all projects, content and sites.
Requirements
- Must have an active SECRET (or higher) Security Clearance
- 3-5 years of instructional design, eLearning, and project management experience in a fast-paced, high-growth, and high-output environment.
- Demonstrated knowledge of adult learning theory best practices and experience designing content with various tools.
- Ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects, deliverables, and competing priorities with a proven record of success.
- Working knowledge of e-learning authoring tools (such as Articulate, Captivate, Adobe, and H5P).
- Experience designing e-learning interactive content that support adult learning principles.
- Working knowledge of HTML, CSS, MS Office Suite (MS Word, PowerPoint, Project, and Excel).
- Strong project and time management skills, strong ability to track multiple tasks, and meet deadlines with speed and quality.
- Ability to work collaboratively with multiple stakeholders, managing input while owning and driving the development timeline forward.
- Ability to accept and translate feedback into improvements for both content and process.
- Comfort learning new technologies and welcome the challenge of working with ambiguity.
- Exceptional attention to detail, vetting and refining each deliverable to highest quality.
- Working knowledge of learning and content management systems.
- Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
- Prior military experience desired, but not required.
